Ingredients needed to make a McKinley's Delight
2 oz Straight rye whiskey
1 oz Italian red vermouth
1 tsp Cherry liqueur
1 dash Absinthe
McKinley's Delight Cocktail Recipe Directions
Add all the ingredients to a mixing glass and fill with ice. Stir, and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Cut a thin swatch of lemon peel, twist over the drink and discard.
I found this in an article on liquor.com written by David Wondrich who sums it up as follows: The McKinley’s Delight succeeds because it’s basically the same old stuff that everybody likes, just dressed up a little to make it seem new. There’s a lesson there, I suppose.

I am familiar with cherry herring. I might have to find some and whip one of these up.
I make my own cherry liqueur but if you're not up for that Cherry Herring is readily available and quite good.
Fascinating. Its all about context. What cherry liqueur? I have all the fixins but the cherry liqueur.
