tedvilla's Notes

My grandmother drank these (she liked them "weak," (an oxymoron) which we realized near the end of her life meant ice cold) but my mother and father-in-law were the undispted king & queen of the Manhattan. They eschewed the cherry, as do I, but I've added bitters per the original recipe. My father-in-law is having a tough time of it right now. This drink is for him.

I serve a lot of Manhattans. Rye is always the preferred base. I occasionally dirty them up with a splash of Maraschino Cherry Juice, depending on the clientele. Great pic.

I certainly enjoy the classic cocktails. The Manhattan is near the head of the line in this category. As far as Rye Whiskeys go, I prefer Canadian Club over Crown, Seagrams, Black Velvet, etc... That being said, this recipe is the one for me, though the cherry is a must. As I sip a rum based drink that I am trying to perfect, I long for the bold pleasure that is a Manhattan. Before night's end, I will indulge my cravings. -Bartender
P.S. I offer my prayers and concerns for whatever ill besets your father-in-law at this time.
